Show at Biggby

I played a few songs tonight at Biggby coffee in Owosso. To be honest, I have been worrying about playing for the past few weeks, because I knew I wouldn't have a whole lot of time to practice. But being the pro that I am, strong exaggeration, I pulled it off quite well. This was my set list.

Yellow - Coldplay
Hey Ya - Outkast
You are so Beautiful - Joe Cocker
Dance Tonight - Sir Paul McCartney

Free Biggby coffee and a little bit of money... I'll play there anytime.

Sometimes plans change.

Today did not go as expected, but it turned out to be quite fun.

I was planning on working at the office until about 4:00 and then taking a trip to Guitar Center in Flint with my buddy's Joe and Don from church. Well, I realized that no one was home to let my dogs outside, so I went home a little early only to find that there was in fact people at my house. My mom, my dad, and my grandpa were all hanging out when I got there. Soon after that, my cousin Mary and my Aunt Lorrie showed up. So when I thought I was coming home to an empty house, within just a few minutes, we were having a family get together.

Weird.

Anyway, I missed My Name Is Earl tonight. My good ol' pal Rhett says it was an excellent episode. So I'm going to have to watch online ASAP.

Racing the clock

Biggby coffee is currently having a customer appreciation week. In celebration of this event, they have been giving away a different grande drink every day. Well for today's free drink, you could either get an orange or banana creme freeze. I have been wanting to try one of these bad boys ever since they opened late last year, so today was finally my chance. If it were only that simple...

I wasn't able to make it there during the day, so my only hope was to make it after my mid week church service. I must confess, I was a getting a little antsy by the end of the service, because they close at 9pm. No joke, I walked into Biggby at around 8:58. I felt kind of bad at first for making them whip me up a creme freeze right before they put up the closed sign. But once that refreshing burst of berry goodness hit my mouth, I couldn't have cared less.

Plus I gave her a pretty decent tip too! :D

Chemistry is not for me...

I subbed for a high school chemistry class today. It went ok I guess. I'm still not sure why anyone would choose to take a chemistry class though. Don't get me wrong, I understand the importance of it. And maybe there is actually people out there that get their kicks studying the periodic table... All I know is, the kids in this class weren't too thrilled about chemistry, and neither am I.

Monumental Occasion

I filmed a commercial for a monument company today. Not gonna lie, it was a little weird being in a building filled with gravestones.

Grand Torino

Today I watched the film Grand Torino with my dad. In my opinion, it was lacking some back story. You could tell it was filmed near Detroit too, which is always cool to see when you're from Michigan.

Cheddar is Better

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I consumed an entire can of Easy Cheese by myself today. Why is this stuff so good? My guess is that they put tiny amounts of crack cocaine in it. That's how Coca-Cola got there big break... Why not Easy Cheese?

If cheddar in a can is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Don't worry... The chain is off

Thursday's are by far the best night for watching television. If you're looking for comedy, NBC has the best line up. My name is Earl, Kath and Kim, The Office, and 30 Rock. Do yourself a favor and catch it next week.

Mr. VanLoon

As most of you know, I substitute teach to earn a little extra cash. Well today I had a job at one of the local high schools. Nothing too exciting happened, but I did have one student who took me off guard. He told me that he was really tired from the night before. Knowing that the Super Bowl was lastnight, I asked him if that was the reason for staying up so late. This is where he took me by surprise... He said he got to see his father for the first time in 3 years. It didn't really hit me until later in the day, but when it did, I started feeling very sorry for that young man. I have never known what it's like to not have a parent around and I learned yesterday that I have definitely taken that for granted.

SuperBowl XLIII

For the past few years I have gone to a SuperBowl party with my dad. This year I continued the tradition. We usually arrive to the party about 5 hrs. before the game to have a poker tournament. The highlight of all this though, is most definitely the food.

I didn't see too many commercials that I liked this year. Maybe I was grabbing more snacks during the good ones. I'm not sure.

What Difference Does It Make?

Today I attended the first of four class meetings I will have throughout the next couple of months. For this course, which is titled Professional Communications Seminar, we are required to read a book called The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. So far it has been very enlightening.

The picture I posted is an illustration from this book. What do you see in this drawing? Look closely... Depending on your perception, you may see two completely different images. The point of this exercise is to help us better understand that people may see things differently than ourselves. It does not make another person's point of view any more right or wrong as opposed to ours (unless our perception or theirs is completely wrong) it only makes it different from our way of looking at it.
